The purpose of the integration of the Smart Touch solution in the cells is to provide distraction, to inform the suspects about rights and obligations and to make it possible to make contact via the Telehearing project with a lawyer or Public Prosecutor.
The Smart Touch media wall is used intensively in the cells with very positive experiences. There is more peace of mind for both the suspects and the detainee supervisor and there is more clarity about their day activities. This contributes to a pleasant atmosphere in the cell, which has a positive effect on the communication with the suspects and the prevention of crisis situations.
The Smart Touch is used in the following Dutch locations:

Specifications
In collaboration with the Police, BPI has made a special Smart Touch design for the Police cells. This design concerns a molest-resistant 19-inch surface-mounted variant. In addition to the standard features, touchscreen screen, speakers and a camera, an intercom system has been built in and the functionality for Televerhearing, which makes the solution unique.

Smart Touch in Police complexes
The national Dutch Police is divided into 10 regional units, the National Unit and the Police Services Centre. Each regional unit has one or more Police Detention Centers. Detainnees who are transferred to a Police Detainee Complex are briefly described below. Smart Touch offers the possibility to connect functionalities to the specific requirements and wishes for each target group:
Detainees who have been detained within the framework of the Aliens Act and/or placed in immigration detention, are only deprived of their liberty, but need not experience any further restrictions, other than for security reasons;
Preventive detainees can be detained in a detention center pending placement in a detention center;
Detainees who have been arrested because they have fled from a penitentiary or have not returned from leave are placed in a penitentiary by DJI through the intermediary of the CJIB. They can be placed in a police detention center pending placement in a penitentiary.
