More than 50 different healthcare institutions in the Netherlands and abroad are now successfully using the Smart Touch solution. In recent years, we have seen existing customers extend the Smart Touch solution to other departments and locations. Preventing Compulsory Incarceration

Practice has shown that isolation is a traumatizing experience for a client. Traditional separation areas are designed to give as few stimilu as possible. Research has shown that if no stimulation, distraction or some form of self-direction is possible, this can lead to sensory deprivation. As a result, further disruption is lurking and it becomes more difficult to get in touch with the client and continue the treatment.

The transition from the traditional separation area to a normal hospital ward is also challenging in practice, which means there is a chance of a relapse and serious disruptions. The Smart Touch solution offers support to clients, to make the isolation as short and humanely as possible. The Smart Touch media wall therefore seamlessly complies with the Inclusions Field Standard, which has been drawn up by the Mental Health Care Netherlands and TNO.

To prevent compulsory incarceration and help promoting recovery, the Smart Touch solution capitalizes on the following essential benefits:

  • To restore autonomy (self-direction) at a time of serious disruption;
  • Sending stimuli per individual and per moment until a normal level is reached;
  • Creating a humanitarian environment by providing distraction, personal preferences and choices;
  • Providing information provision, which ensures peace and clarity;
  • Offering contact moments via a secure video-speech connection with family, friends, professionals or (for example) a lawyer.

Specifications

The Smart Touch solution is an user-friendly media wall. All icons have an image, text and color. Within a maximum of two ‘clicks’ the client is where he or she needs to be or back to the home screen. This allows clients in crisis and/or with a low IQ to use the solution without any explanation. In addition, sixteen (16) languages are supported by default.
